At the Women to Watch Awards luncheon last Friday, our very own Katie Drees was recognized by the FICPA as one of seven nominees in the Emerging Leader category. Katie joined Grennan Fender Hess & Poparad as an undergraduate intern of the University of Central Florida in 2007. In 2009, upon graduation with a BS degree in Accounting, she became a full-time associate of the firm where she spent three years in the Tax Department. Then in 2012, the firm made a strategic decision to promote a new service line. The Outsource Accounting Department was born with Katie as its sole employee and leader. Today, Katie leads a department of 15 people that generates over 30% of firm revenues. With Grennan Fender now in the top 15 Central Florida CPA firms (according to the Orlando Business Journal), she runs a sizable small business in itself. “Katie has always demonstrated a desire and aptitude to run her department like a business”, says firm founder Jed Grennan, CPA. “This resonates with the millennial generation workforce she manages and certainly the many clients who rely on her to deliver the vital accounting services that run their businesses.”
Congratulations to Katie for being recognized as a nominee and, hopefully, next year’s award winner!
